I aim to reset some routines after moving made life chaotic, starting with some goals.

Moving has been an ordeal.
But, as I’m catching up on my ‘monthly’ blog posts again, I’m reviewing some older posts. It’s nice to see some frameworks or prompts in older posts that might be able to help me now.
Writing stuff down is only so good if you review it at all, I suppose.
Rather than a review, this post becomes more of an identification post.
I need to establish new goals, especially because I have changed a ton, my work has changed a ton, and I’m not currently pursuing any clear goals.
New goal creation counts both for some personal stuff I want to do, but since I now lead a team for the first time in my career, I really need clear objectives for my team to pursue.
Not having active goals has also made my time outside of work undefined. I get home and seemingly waste my evenings until bed time. This had not been bothering me too much until I started realizing I was not really doing anything satisfying or worthwhile most of my evenings – which I didn’t realize until I took a moment to pause and think about it.
Besides setting goals, I need to establish plans to accomplish my goals, and set aside time to execute those plans.
When I put together my goals, I ought to define why I want to reach those goals, when I want to reach them, and schedule that time in the context of my other obligations. I’ll probably do that this coming weekend.
While I won’t elaborate much in this post, I know some of my goals are educational, social, creative, and professional.
I need to make objectives for fiscal year 2027 at work. What activities, both program-specific and team-specific, do I need to pursue? What skillsets do I need to refine or outright develop from scratch? When was the last time my team did something not specific to work for team-building or otherwise getting to know each other better?
I need to minimize the writing projects I want to work on so I can actually get anything done. I should work on a singular novel idea instead of floating multiple ideas as ideas in note cards in disparate locations… and I probably should not work on a Major version of a writing project like this 72 AW project unless I can actually fit it into a format that smoothly-enough parallels novel writing work.
Fitness is important to me but to what extent? My baseline approach is “if I can pass my fitness assessment with a 90+, I don’t care to focus on it that much.” I also continue to play pickleball at least once, sometimes twice a week – this likely does not warrant adjustment, but I guess I’ll find out closer to my fitness assessment.
I’ve been enjoying spending time with new friends, but I know this is a source of excuses to not write. Socializing is important, but it’s not necessarily critical… I need to examine that in some depth, soon.
Goals and plans aren’t going to make themselves, and the post-move stress may last, but it cannot remain an obstacle after so long.
It’s time to take a breath, sit down, and return to some normalcy.
