This post is honestly nothing more than an announcement that I was selected for promotion.

After waiting 10 more weeks than initially expected, I finally got informed that I have been selected for promotion to Major!
Promotion itself will not be for a while, but plenty of things are triggered because of it.
I get to do some planning for my promotion ceremony. I should have plenty of time to get my family and friends up here without disrupting too much.
I need to begin working on my Intermediate Developmental Education. I’ll be registering for my Air Command and Staff College courses soon.
I get a slightly different stratification situation this year. While I am a Captain, I am a Major Select – I cannot receive a stratification as a captain or as a major at this time. I can still receive a stratification as a program manager, though.
My pay gets a bump. Public pay tables suggest a pay bump in the realm of $1400. Not bad.
I need to update my uniforms before I promote, and my intent is to replace my current uniforms entirely. I don’t like the OCPs with the chest pockets, and I’d like to have my tapes sewn on rather than velcro. I’m also gonna replace my cover – I have the baseball cap, but I don’t really like it. I still wanted to try it out, though.
A more subtle difference is that some people will likely perceive a captain differently from a major. I don’t understand the nuances of it all, but this may make a significant difference when interacting with various offices. I’d argue it shouldn’t really, but it is what it is.
Oh, and if I’m not mistaken, this selection should also enable me to reach retirement, which is relieving. There is still plenty of pressure to deal with, but at least that particular valve is no longer strained.
I’ve got to develop a better sense for delegation and strategic consideration.
I doubt I’ll get that from my ACSC courses, but I suppose I don’t really know what to expect out of those. I’m under the impression that they’re not very useful through the online versions.
I do need to get back to reading books more often, so hopefully the courses will at least give me some good recommendations.
Ah, and a final thought: by the time I promote, this series of posts should finally conclude!
